Monday's dose from Transforming....:
It's about seeing the glass as half-full, rather than half-empty.
You are seeing and verbalizing the positive steps your child is making in the right direction even if the behavior is rare, infrequent or short-lived. This attention and affirmation magnifies what is already present, lending proactive (positive) rather than reactive (negative) energy to the healing/tuning process. pg 80

From The Inner Wealth....:
A list of (some) recognized behaviors, attitudes and attributes that make children ready and receptive to learning:
Readines, Attentiveness, Cooperation, Patience, Reflectiveess, Problem-solving, Wondering, Guessing, Asking Comparing, Self-control, Remembring, inducting, Deducting, Intuitiveness, Listening, Participating, Prepared, Organized, Alert, Inquisitive, Collaborative, Receptive, Present.

Basically the list could include anything else it takes to become an angler for knowledge. pg 64

from Transforming....:
If you sense that negative behavior appears to be on the horizon, we suggest you maintain a neutral attitude and creativey utilize the situation as an opportunity for proactive recognition. Proactive recognition is the cement that holds together the rules that you are now using to frame your child's behavior. Its use creates a different magnetic pull and a new message about your belief in your child. pg 81

from The Inner Wealth....:
When the class begins to behave, recognize them with specifics for showing what it takes to learn. Don't demonstrate to students that you value the lesson over them by leaping into the lesson as soon as they're quiet and seem attentive. As soon as you do that, they'll see your new fabulously positive approach as a manipulation and the fireworks will begin anew. pg 65

...it is amazingly effective to teach rules when they aren't being broken. You and your child may both find it odd, but the fact is this is exactly the right time to demonstrate to a child that she is indeed within the expected bounds. She is not breaking rules. The child, under the new circumstances of success,is truly psychologically and emotionally receptive. pg 82-3

from The Inner Wealth....
The curriculum of teaching students that they are good and valuable people is the most lasting lesson a teacher can ever teach. The time you put into this will improve your classroom's academic performance. But, ironically, to enjoy the fullest expression of your students' academic mastery and achievement, you have to go after the prize of inner wealth not the prize of better grades or test scores. pg 65

from Transforming....
One way to understand the meaning of proactive is this: If you find out that you have the genetics of a heart problem because it runs in your family, do you really want to wait for your first bypass surgery to do something about it? Or, do you want to look at changing some of your attitudes, stresses and habits of rest, exercise and eating before the problem develops? You get the point. pg 83

From The Inner Wealth...
Not everyone can be brilliant, but they can be wonderful participants, valued, and enjoyed -- and feel great about themselves. pg 65
